Obituary

Local businessman dies.

After leading a full, active life of 95 years, Thomas Paul Feorene died November 29, 2021 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where he was living with his daughter and her family. Tom was born in Fairmont, WV on June 8, 1926, the son of the late Frank and Carmella Feorene.

Upon graduating from Fairmont Senior High School in 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theater on the USS LST-945 as a ship machinist. He was one of the last of the greatest generation.

After returning, Tom married Pauline Menonchick on October 23, 1948, the two of them spent 69 years together before Pauline's death in 2017.

Tom worked at Owen's Illinois Glass in their shipping department while attending vocational school to learn to become an auto mechanic.

Tom owned and operated Tom's Service Center on Locust Avenue in 1953, which became the focal point on Tom's life. He spent nearly every day of his working life there. Since much of his time was spent at the station, his old-time friends and customers would arrive daily to share stories, swap news, talk about old times, and drink coffee.

One of Tom's favorite memories while working at his station was an unexpected visit from Robert F. Kennedy when he came to West Virginia campaigning for his brother, John, during the presidential election in 1960.

Tom was a dedicated and skilled mechanic and enjoyed working with the public. He continued to work until 2013, serving many customers in the Fairmont and Marion County area.

Tom enjoyed simple things; dogs, eating ice cream, Italian food, watching animal/nature shows, country and big band music, and old-time westerns. He was known for his hard work and great sense of humor, ornery smile, and gentle spirit. He was always available to help his neighbors and friends.

Tom is survived by his son, Thomas G. Feorene and wife Rena of Rachel, WV; his daughter, Sandra Davis and husband Bruce of Fredericksburg, VA; and granddaughters, Hope and Audrey Davis. Also surviving are his sister, Veronica Hartzell of Franklin Park, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Julius, Frank, Paul, Valentino; and sisters, Rose, Eva, and Martha.

Tom was a member of the VFW Post 629, where he served as an officer and the Fairmont Moose Lodge and a long-time parishioner of Saint Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church.

Tom was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family.

"Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with few things; I will put you in charge of many things; Enter into the joy of you Lord!" Matthew 25:21.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Monday, December 6, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The funeral will be at the funeral home on Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Deacon David Lester officiating.
