Obituary

Vladimir V. Plivelich passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022 in Fairmont, WV. He was born March 17, 1940 in Jordan, WV to parents Mike and Catherine Plivelich, deceased.

He was educated in Marion County schools, having graduated from West Fairmont High School, Class of 1958. At the age of 19, he moved to Elkins, WV, and worked as a cabinet maker for Metal Labcraft Co., a company that builds cabinets for hospitals. In 1959, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, retiring in May 1979, with the rank of Master Sgt. During his career, he received many awards, including Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal or the Dept. of Defense, "Comptroller of the Year" for service with Air Force Intelligence Service, Fort Belvior Army Base and Pentagon. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, he worked for Safeway Foods in Alexandria, VA for 23 years, retiring for the second time in 2001.

He was proud of the fact that that he was able to travel through or lived in 48 states and 16 countries worldwide during his lifetime.

Surviving Mr. Plivelich is his wife of 64 years, Shirley Jones Plivelich of Fairmont, WV; three children, daughter, Valerie Ann Weaver of Fairmont, WV; son, Paul Allan Plivelich of Alexandria, VA; son, David Michael Plivelich and wife Robin of Milton, DE; a special sister-in-law, Paulette June Jones (Polly) of Farmington, NY; grandchildren, Justin Weaver and wife Lauren of Ridgewood, NJ; Grayson Weaver of New York, NY, Fallan Plivelich, Melissa Harris, and Lyndsie Plivelich, all of Alexandria, VA, Jordan Plivelich and his wife Nicole of Lewes, DE, Evan Plivelich of Denver, CO; great grandchildren, Everly and Harrison Weaver, Matthew Walnetski, Jr., Isabella and McKenzie Plivelich, Brianna, Kayla, Alexa, and Jaxson Plivelich. Also surviving are his brothers, Frank, Michael, Carl, Mark, and Rodney; sisters, Kathy, Julie, and Pamela; two sisters, Dorothy and Elizabeth are deceased.

The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV, especially Dr. Thomas Hogan, and to Greg Plivelich, nephew, and Mike Nagy, a long-time friend of Val's.
