Willa Dean Rose Wilson was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at the Fairmont Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born on March 27, 1942 to het late William Prince and Sarah Canzater Rose in Fairmont, West Virginia.
Willa, affectionately known as Polly or Granny, was baptized at an early age at eh Morning Star Baptist Church and attended Dunbar High School. Upon graduation, she relocated to Buffalo, NY where she met and married her husband, the late Arthur Smith. To this union were three children.
After living in New York for several years, she relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana where she met and married her second husband, the late James Wilson. She returned to Fairmont after his death and retirement and reunited with the Morning Star Baptist Church. SH became a member of the choir, nurse's, pastor's aide, kitchen, and women's ministries. She was also a member of the NAACP. She helped in every capacity she could.
Polly was employed as a nurse and did some catering service to well-known musicians. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, traveling, and playing bid whist every Sunday afternoon with her friends. Most importantly, she loved caring and teaching her grand and great grandchildren the facets of life and responsibilities. She organized all the holiday parties for the children of the neighborhood, usually held at her home in the circle. She was also employed by the Marion County Parks & Recreation.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two loving daughters, Mary Jane Cooper of Atlanta, Georgia and Sharon Jones and Jim Campbell of Fairmont, West Virginia; four grandchildren, Lisa and Felecia Jones of Fairmont, WV, Anetris Austin and Kenneth Jones Jr. (Anita) all of Atlanta, GA; eleven great grandchildren, Dey'mon, D'Vaughn, and Dominick Austin, Jaylen Alston-Taylor and Julianna Alston-Ellis, Dyrelle Navaughn, Akira, Nabreia, and Journey Jones (who lived and cared for her), and John Washington III(JD); one brother-in-law, Morris (Ursulla) Goodloe of Buffalo, NY; several nieces, including the Cook families, Dawn Askew and Sarah Hodges; several nephews, including Nathaniel (Thelma) Askew, Zanus (Rosalee) Cook, and the Cook families, Terrence (Jewell), Damon (Sharon), Braylon, and Robert Jr.; and a host of friends, especially her "card" buddies.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her only son, Arthur Smith, Jr.; two sisters, Annie Canzater and Mary Jean Askew; three brothers, Elgin and Joe Cook and Emery Rose; three nephews, Robert Askew, Theodore and Darrell Cook; son-in-law, Kenneth Jones Sr.; and several cousins, including Teretha Alston.

The family will receive friends at Morning Star Baptist Church on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tony Jones and Rev.
